Adding a Little Life to the Yard

This past week has been Spring Break (AKA a teacher’s best friend this time of year), and with the beautiful weather I decided it was time to give the front yard a little bit of fun–a little bit of life! Since this is the first year I’ve had a yard to plant my own flowers, I figured I would get the Flower Queen herself (yes, that’s my mama) to give me a little advice and help.  We went to six different flower stores…you have to be a little picky when choosing the perfect flowers, and I was quite pleased with our colorful selections.

When selecting flowers there are a few important things to know: 1) How much sun the area you are planting in receives daily 2) if you are wanting to purchase annuals or perennials and the difference between each [annual means the flowers will not come back the following year & perennials will come back year after year] and 3) how big of an area you are planting flowers in.

I chose a variety of different flowers and colors including Gerber Daisies, Geraniums, Dianthus, Vinca, Celosia, and Marigolds.  I also decided to use black mulch to go on top so that the bright flowers would have an extra POP!

I guess you know you’re growing up when 1) shopping now consists of flower shopping and 2) you have the best time planting flowers with your mom! Hope you love your flower beds as much as we do!
